Creative Tuesdays - Store Front

This challenge (store front) from Mr Toast really was a challenge for me.  It was not so much with the drawing, although I did try some perspective,  but the painting aspect.  As this drawing is 6.5 x 5 inches and quite detailed, I thought I would go with watercolours.  Now watercolours are not my usual form of medium and I am also nervous with lots of colour, but I thought no I will give it a go.  I am not entirely happy with the outcome, but in the spirit of the challenge have still entered it.  I think I ended up with too much brown. Any constructive criticism would be more than helpful.

I wanted to depict a Victorian toy shop which was warm and inviting with lots of goodies inside.

On Tuesday why not hop over to Mr T's blog to see what others have done.

  4. How very quaint. Toy stores just aren't the same anymore are they? I remember the fun of going into the shop just looking and wishing. It seemed so personal then. Lovely! Cathy

  5. Perfect. Now my watercolors were more pastel and I darkened it with Picknik now I wish I hadn't. I cannot draw people for sure. You did a great job.

  7. Linda, I think this is brilliant, actually. WOW. Yes, so detailed. I love the story behind it and all the toys, etc. Nice to see people too--you were brave1 :) As for the brown, you could "replace colour" in photoshop now that it's done to give it a slightly more warm glow to it if you wanted, but really, I think it is fine as is. It must have taken you ages.

I was going to do my drawing on watercolour about the same size and then watercolour paints but felt too tired and weak to do it. Glad you did though.
