Teeny tiny tablet box journal

After being inspired by Jennibellie's blog on the making of her cereal box journal, I thought I would give it a go but on a much smaller scale to start with.  So after searching for what I had, I found a very small tablet box which measured 2x5inches.  As this was rather long I cut it in half, so my teeny tiny journal is 2.5x2inches. Below is the finished journal.

I covered the card in gesso and then painted it with the base colour.  Then I drew and painted the bird and the flower.  I still have not made my mind up what to go on the spine, any ideas?  I then added ribbon and covered the inside with blue tissue paper.

As it was so small I decided rather than have individual pages I would do an accordian style. I very roughly folded a length of watercolor paper and then drew and painted on them in acrylics. These are the pages.

I then glued the back page into the cover.

This is the end result, which I am really chuffed about.

I am now hooked and collecting all my empty packages, so shall go bigger.

By the way there is still time to enter for my three giveaways, all details can be found here.  Happy weekend everyone.

  1. WOW!! I love your drawings, and this is a good way of showing them!! I always ha lots of cardboard boxes. This is something I'll copy when my nephews will come here in Italy. As it's winter time, we have few opportunities for staying outside, and I have to find something for them to make.
    Thanks for sharing, dear!!

  6. I'm not sure what chuffed means...but I L-O-V-E, love it. So adorable it makes me want to squeal...even though I can't because of my alto voice!!! I love Jennibellie too and am - today - working on making my own little (although no where near as small as yours) journal. As they say...Great minds run along the same paths.

  8. Oh my goodness Linda! This is the cutest book. I've made things with cereal and pasta boxes but never a book. I love recycling and making beautiful objects from what otherwise would be discarded. I've seen others add strings of beads or fabric strips to the spines. Yours is lovely as is, I don't think it needs any extra bling unless you just want to try it.
Thanks for the inspiration I' m going to try one.

  13. Yay!! I got here lol I have been before but didn't realise serendipity was your blog :) super cool mini, you're a great artist!!! I like accordions too, it gives a feeling of telling a story don't you think??? I agree that with others that the mini is perfect in itself but if you want to add something I think a little border strip (do you have any martha stewart punches? - one of those would go nice) or something else that is flat but would add interest. As you know I like to add dimension to make it 'arty' but I think your covers are more than enough on that score. Great work :)
