Creative Tuesdays - Pie

Pie is the order of the day over at Creative Tuesdays.  The first thing that came to mind were Four and Twenty Blackbirds Baked in a Pie, but I thought I couldn't draw 24 of them!  Then I thought of stargazy pie.  This is a Cornish dish made of baked pilchards along with eggs and potatoes with a pastry cover.

This is the first time I have drawn, rather than sketched since I had an eye operation and it brought home to me the current condition of my eye.  Whilst the actual operation was a success, I have unfortunately now developed a condition that causes the macular part of my eye to lose clear vision, so everything close to is distorted.  I am really hoping that this will be reversed with eye drops as I struggled a little on this drawing.  Only time will tell.  Luckily I don't seem to notice it so much when I am sewing.

Feeling hungry than pop over to the Creative Tuesdays blog to see more selections.

  1. Oh my gosh, that is so funny. Earlier I was thinking of "Four and Twenty Blackbirds Baked in a Pie" and thinking of maybe doing this but then jsut couldn;t bring myself to draw baked birds even whislt thinking of some lovely illustrations when a youngster. I ruminated how perhaps Linda woudl take the cahllenge! But nooo...you went one step beyond to a pie I;ve never en heard of! LOL. Sounds very fishy indeed. Not sure I could eat it, mind you, as I am not wild about fish if i can tell what it is (if that makes any sense!). but, this is so wonderfully illustrated. Love the colours and the fish heads, fish heads, lovely lovely fish heads. :)

So sorry about you eyes though. That explains the stitching as of late...which you also blow me away with regularly. As it is, I don;t see any issues with focus here so you managed somehow. Hope things improve on that front for you speedily so you can continue to do what YOU and all of us love--your drawings! :) Thank you, Linda!

  3. This is super creative! I thought of doing a savory pie but then abandoned the idea, but it's awesome you went with it :-) I love the colors, learning about this pie, and the fish character design. Also I'm really sorry to hear about your eyes :-( Sending you wishes for love and hugs and quick recovery. I agree with Mister Toast, the drawing is superb and you cannot at all tell you had problems seeing while drawing it. Get well soon and good wishes for you and your art <3

  5. I could not tell from the drawing that you have trouble with it, it looks so precise and cute too, although I would not eat such pies.

I hope your eyes recover soon. have a great day.

  7. Oh wow, I saw one of these on a TV programme and admit to thinking it rather gross, lol, but I think your rendition is fabulous with no hints of blurriness at all. Bravo on a fabulous entry.
I hope your eye improves soon. You're the third art person I've noticed lately having had eye surgery. Sad I think and no doubt very frustrating. Sending healing thoughts your way ((hugs)) :o) x
