Yellow was the colour this week in the Summer of Color challenge. As I had decided from the first colour of blue that I would keep to a mono-chromatic scheme using only one pot of paint in the required colour and all the same size of 5x4 inches, yellow has proved the most difficult colour for me so far and I know there will be others to come! So I think I may have overcompensated with too much detail.
It has made me learn a lot more about the colours that I am using and how they can change quite a bit sometimes with either water or white added. I am normally the type of gal who has to buy all the paint pots in all the different shades going !
Looking at the two together now on scheen, I think now that the black pen is possibly too heavy for the yellow fairy, as I used a brown biro to outline the flowers, which recedes a little.
There is some amazing work being done by every one, so on Monday hop over the Kristin's blog to check them out, and also all the challenges todate.
You've done it again! Beautiful!! You manage to use only one color and yet create pictures that are lovely.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love your yellow pieces. Of course I'm partial to the fairy, lol! Yellow is a tough color to work with and you did a fantastic job! Very tough to use only the one color.

love love love your work...i found yellow very tricky, but you make it look amazing...xxx
ReplyDeleteWonderful, wonderful work.
ReplyDeleteI find monochromatic very hard. You have inspired me to have another go at it.
Thank you.
xx
Marvelous! Love the fairy and I love that you always make a second flower painting. :)
ReplyDeleteLove these! That little mushroom is just the best!!! :) Nan
ReplyDeleteTwo wonderful pieces, love them. xx
ReplyDeleteFab pieces - I like the looseness and lightness of the flowers; I agree the brown ink is softer and less intrusive than the black though both pieces are really good.
ReplyDeleteHmm. . . it really is interesting to see how the brown and black pens make a difference in the overall feel of a piece - and I think that each color is perfect for it's subject. Brown works so well with your beautiful soft (and cheery ;) flower and I really like the bolder black for the fairy. Your white dotted accents really pull it all together. Another wonderful addition (to your calendar?) xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love them and I don't think the black is too heavy at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is over detailed at all, I think it makes the piece! & you worked well with your yellows, I'm so jealous of your painting abilities!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda :) I love how you've used only one colour for your wonderful paintings!! both are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove your yellow paintings, good idea with the brown biro. Your summer break houses are great, too! It's so nice to see all these sunny pictures from everyone! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThis is a delightful little painting. I think the only way to work to work with such a monochromatic colour scheme is to go with texture or detail, either implied/drawn as you have done or physically layered as I did with my quilt. (mmm I may have gone overboard with my texture!)either way, it was a challenge! Julie
ReplyDeleteWell done for only using yellow - that must have been difficult to do but is SO effective. I love all the doodling in your fairy picture, and I like her just as she is. If you'd used the brown pen she might have receded too much. The flower is also wonderful, I like the framing.
ReplyDeleteYou do mono-chrome so well Linda! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your yellow fairy, and the black outline looks perfect to me... gives it more impact :)
Two wonderful pieces!
I love both your pieces... but especially the fairy :) I think you've done a wonderful job of just using one colour. Its really hard!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, I love the snail on the toad stool and the butterfly. These details really make it for me, wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour pen makes the difference. Really love the flowers.
ReplyDeleteI think both your pieces are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. I especially love the flowers. Such a happy colour = yellow.

ReplyDeleteWOW!! Both of these look wonderful. You are very talented.. I wish I could draw like that..
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, really love your fairy!
ReplyDeleteTwo creative and cheery, warm projects!
ReplyDeleteHO ho HO...so cute, so vibrant, so light...I don't think the black lines are too much, no, they make a definition that i like...I am happy to be able to write a comment on your blog today...I will come back to watch your next brown creation...
ReplyDeleteIt really is amazing how white and black or brown can give a contrast and definition to a piece! You are so brave to do a face in yellow! It looks great. I especially like the white dots on the mushroom, smiles, Norma
