Fun characters

Whilst I am starting on my 3M angel, I am trying to do something small each day, so I decided to do some simple character drawings.  These are 3.5 x 2.5 inches in size and are done with no planning, just how the pen goes on the paper and then painted in acrylic, just to see what happens.  I am hoping that by doing them regularly and not really worrying about the end result, I might surprise myself. These are the first two.

Klimt style goddess

My goddess is finally finished!  I found that doing a large canvas with all the mixed media involved was quite time consuming, but was worth doing, as it challenged me.  I also ended up with a lot of sleeves daubed with paint, as I would forget whilst I was working that parts of the canvas were still wet!

and this is a close up of the face, as I had difficulty in photographing the painting, as the light was really bad.

Chocolate angel

My chocolate angel came about with inspiration from two of my favourite artists.  Kyles has uploaded a demonstration of one of her angels at http://blissfulpumpkin.blogspot.com/2011/02/how-to-create-one-of-my-mixed-media.html, so I borrowed her idea.  The colours came from Micki's blog at http://thesecrethermit.blogspot.com/ from Mary the chocolate fairy.  I added my own interpretation. Thanks guys, I really enjoyed painting her.

Still working on my goddess

But in the meantime, a whimsical painting using some of my favourite colours.  I am not hurrying with my goddess painting, as I don't want to work on her in artifical light, which only leaves me the weekends because of my job.  Still the days are beginning to draw out again and I am so looking forward to the Spring. Happy weekend everyone!

Just playing around

Thought I would loosen up a little with some doodling, whilst still working on my Goddess painting.   I am following Traci Bautista's daily prompts at http://kollaj.typepad.com/kollaj/art-journaling-daily.html and this was as a result of one of her prompts.

I spashed acylic ink on watercolour paper, then made random circles and did whatever felt good. The ink dried in such a way on the third one, that it suggested a cat, albeit a strange one, so I left off the circles and drew in some lines.
