Teeny tiny tablet box journal

After being inspired by Jennibellie's blog on the making of her cereal box journal, I thought I would give it a go but on a much smaller scale to start with.  So after searching for what I had, I found a very small tablet box which measured 2x5inches.  As this was rather long I cut it in half, so my teeny tiny journal is 2.5x2inches. Below is the finished journal.

I covered the card in gesso and then painted it with the base colour.  Then I drew and painted the bird and the flower.  I still have not made my mind up what to go on the spine, any ideas?  I then added ribbon and covered the inside with blue tissue paper.

As it was so small I decided rather than have individual pages I would do an accordian style. I very roughly folded a length of watercolor paper and then drew and painted on them in acrylics. These are the pages.

I then glued the back page into the cover.

This is the end result, which I am really chuffed about.

I am now hooked and collecting all my empty packages, so shall go bigger.

By the way there is still time to enter for my three giveaways, all details can be found here.  Happy weekend everyone.

Hope journal page

This is the finished version from the sketch I posted earlier.

I have now started on my large canvas for Tam's Magical, Mythical Makings class  (Goddess, Klimt style).  I have not worked on such a large scale before, so although I am enjoying it a lot, I think it will take me time to finish.  I find that I need to put down my work sometimes, and go away from it and do something else, then go back with fresh eyes.

Journal sketch - Hope

This is a sketch from my journal which I am going to call Hope, which I will post again when it is finished.

While I was on the bus going home from work the other day, I overheard one lady talking to her friend. She said "I'm too old at 63 to learn anything new". I must admit I was really saddened by this. I am of that age and still relish new challenges and learning new skills, as I know other ladies of a similar age out there in our art world do. I think, though, that there are probably a lot of people  who say the same thing.  It is very sad.

Another painting from my practice journal.  I do seem to love orange and blue!

New Journal

Hooray, I have now found a journal that I can paint in without the pages buckling too much, so this is the first piece.   I have decided to keep this journal for practising and painting faces in.

I have tried quite a few journals, but the paper either roughs up or buckles quite considerably, which I hate, so as I like this one, of course I had to buy a few, in case the shop ran out! Well that's my excuse.
